The mission of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) is to “Foster the Art of Musical Liturgy.” Changing hearts through song, NPM promotes the full, conscious, and active participation of our assemblies, internally and externally, but especially through robust and prayerful song. Their association also provides training and formation for musicians and clergy in their important ministry of serving and leading communities in sung prayer.

This 43rd convention for the organization, and its first-ever virtual convention, is providing resourcing for Catholic and ecumenical music ministry leaders responding to the challenges presented to their ministry by the COVID-19 pandemic and pastoral strategies for their continuing ministry. In my role as USCCB Director of Certification for Ecclesial Ministry & Service, I am participating remotely and will also provide a pre-recorded presentation on the work of the USCCB Subcommittee on Certification for Ecclesial Ministry and Service, its long-standing relationship with NPM, and discuss the details of NPM’s USCCB-approved certification for Director of Music Ministries.
