As a professional liturgical composer, Marty’s impact on liturgy in the United States is already profound. But his book, “To Serve As Jesus Did,” moves beyond the choir and into the whole of parish life, integrating a rich biblical and pastoral theological vision with insights drawn from concrete experience.
His doctoral dissertation examines the understandings of the church in the writings of two contemporary North American Roman Catholic theologians, Gregory Baum (b. 1923) and Fr. Patrick Granfield, OSB (1930-2014).
Dr. Gaillardetz, a noted U.S. Roman Catholic ecclesiologist, has combined insights gleaned from a solid analysis of the text and context of Vatican II with developments of both a theological and pastoral nature from the experience of church in the emerging Global South.
Can we relate the core of this Franciscan “cruciform” spirituality to dimensions of FAN’s ongoing education and advocacy?
